Nonprofit Industry Custom Application
Direct Impact Solutions Transforms Heartbeat Denver Nonprofit with FileMaker Application
Heartbeat Denver is a Working Men’s Shelter located in Denver’s Central Presbyterian Church that provides a clean, safe, and sober living space for men as they transition out of homelessness and into independent living. This secular nonprofit provides a variety of training programs for its residents including financial skills, interview skills, help with job searching, and resume writing skills. Heartbeat Denver also helps its residents find suitable housing as they transition out of the shelter.
Issues
Heartbeat Denver’s staff were facing a major challenge: an outdated database was hampering operations and limiting the program’s impact. The Microsoft Access database was not only outdated, but also difficult to use, making the management of residents and operations extremely complex. The system’s limitations were hampering the organization’s efficiency, impacting the quality of services offered.
Objectives
To overcome these challenges, Heartbeat Denver and Direct Impact Solutions worked together to replace the obsolete database with a modern, easy-to-use solution tailored to its specific needs. The new database also had to be affordable to fit within Heartbeat Denver’s nonprofit budget.
Solution
Direct Impact Solutions developed a custom database using Claris FileMaker. Using agile methodology, we worked closely with the Heartbeat Denver team to understand their specific needs and ensure the final product met their expectations perfectly. The new FileMaker application features an intuitive user interface, enabling the Heartbeat Denver team to manage data more efficiently and support its residents optimally. Thanks to this custom solution, the organization is able to save time and resources, all while improving the quality of life of its beneficiaries.
